SebinaYOU, App, Augmented reality

A portal, virtual environments and search app with indoor navigation (IN) and orientation features are the solutions adopted by Dot Beyond for the Novara University Library Hub. A project that aims to facilitate the digital use of content for people with disabilities and offer new forms of enjoyment.

As part of the PNRR project for the “Removal of Cognitive and Sensory Barriers in the University of Novara Library Hub, ‘Rita Fossaceca’”, Dot Beyond has collaborated with the University of Eastern Piedmont (UPO) Library System to implement solutions that aim to improve the usability of the library's heritage, encouraging the discovery of the collections by a wide audience.

The BiblioUPO Portal

The new BiblioUPO Portal, created with Sebina software, is an aggregator of information and digital content. The result of a redesign project, it allows users to customize their experience by choosing the accessibility profile according to their needs or sensory abilities. In fact, thanks to the installation of a widget that helps the use of content for people with disabilities, it is possible to adjust the way content is displayed, making it easier to read and understand.

The Virtual exhibitions

Starting with the library's catalographic data, we have created 3D exhibition paths featuring reproductions of “real” objects and pre-processed digital content with high visual impact. Within digital web environments, which reproduce the library's appearance, users can view documents and explore the space via avatars.

On the BiblioUPO portal, it is possible to visit the exhibition that Dot Beyond has produced in collaboration with Archimede Arte, entitled “Reading Migration: Stories, Paradigms, Social Aspects,” a narrative that delves into the phenomenon of migration through a path made up of images taken from books in the UPO libraries and the “Carlo Negroni” civic library in Novara.

Inside the exhibition, users can interact with the environment, exploring its rooms, delve into information about the highlighted texts, with a direct link to the catalog card, interact with other connected users by sending emoticons, and share their experience via social media.

AR navigation APP

The AR navigation APP integrates the Library's catalog search with AR geolocation features and will guide users to the volume they are looking for! White colored arrows along with UPOrobot, the mascot of the APP, will be present at all stages of the search until they arrive at the right shelf, signaling the book they are looking for. During the experience the user can obtain information about the text, use voice directions for orientation among the shelves, and consult the library map.
